Oregon race in August!
Steve Wells
Dear Rowers and Paddlers,
Mark your calenders for the Yaquina Run Off boat races August 18, 2012 on the beautiful Yaquina River in the historic port of Toledo, Oregon. Held in conjunction with the Toledo Wooden Boat Show, the races this year include three events: -Rowing Shell/Row Boat 9 mile head race downstream and back at 11am. -Canoe (including outrigger canoes), Kayak, SUP 10 mile race upstream and back at 1:00pm. -Short Recreational 3 mile Fun Race upstream at 1:30pm. This event is organized by boat enthusiasts in Toledo Oregon, which is located about 10 miles up the Yaquina River from Newport and the Pacific Ocean. It includes a wooden boat show which showcases different types of boats each year on the waterfront area that includes boat demonstrations and a recreational boat building center. Each year in Mid-August the Wooden Boat Show transforms the riverfront into a paddling, rowing and wooden boat extravaganza with art and craft exhibits, antiques, live music, boatbuilding and local seafood. The Yaquina River passes through Toledo past oyster farms down to the ocean at Newport, Oregon, home of the Hatfield Aquarium and Marine Science Center. Nearby camping and lodging opportunities abound and can be located through the Oregon Coast website: http://www.oregoncoasttoday.com/index.html. The Port of Toledo and the Wooden Boat show websites (including rules, maps and registration forms) can be located at http://www.portoftoledo.org/index.html. Please find attached the race rules, registration form and waiver, a beautiful poster for the event (in years past this is the logo on the tshirts) and race info. Course maps are large files and can be located on the website for the race (above). Raymond F.
