The Seattle Flying Dragon Boat Club is seeking volunteers to join a dragon boat racing team representing the City of Seattle in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in mid-June, 2013 as well as compete in local and regional dragon boat races through the year.
An informational meeting about the team is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 6th at the Center for Wooden Boats, 1010 Valley Street, Seattle 98109. A second meeting will be held Friday, March 8th, 6 p.m. at Marriott Courtyard Lake Union, 925 Westlake Avenue North, Seattle 98109.
The club will review volunteer applications and select 40 members. Team members must have paddling or rowing experience, swimming experience, be physically fit and able to paddle 600 to 800 meters. Minimum age is 18. Team tryouts and practices will be held at Lake Union Park in Seattle beginning mid-March.
This team's international race will take place in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in mid-June where the team will represent the City of Seattle and Seattle/Kaohsiung Sister City Association. Paddlers will pay the airfare at reduced rates, however all meals and lodging while in Taiwan are fully provided. Additional competition will be available in Seattle, Portland, Victoria and Vancouver B.C. and other locations throughout the year.
