Tall Ships Tacoma
Michael Lampi <lampi@...>
The Tall Ships are arriving in Tacoma tomorrow around noon. They are
quite something to see under sail! I'm planning to meet them in my Escapade boat much as I did a few years back when they came to Seattle. Anyone care to join me? I'll be launching from the Point Defiance boat ramp around 11 AM. Note: the water can get pretty rough with the passage of these ships. If you can't handle waves of up to 3 feet, then you might want to view these vessels from the shore or at the very least a good distance. --Michael Lampi http://www.tallshipstacoma.com/

Adding an event to the schedule
row12row <rangerdjv@...>
Vancouver Lake Crew, in Vancouver USA, would like to host an event on
Vancouver Lake. Our club philosophy fits well with SoundRowers, and we would like to be included in the SoundRowers schedule. VLC participates at American Lake, Quartermaster Harbor, and Budd Inlet as a club, and individual members race at other SoundRowers events during the year. Vancouver Lake is roughly triangular, about 2 1/2 miles per leg. Some of you may have attended events at Vancouver Lake Park, on the west side of the lake. We operate off of private property on the east side. We have 2, sixty-foot rowing docks, plus sandy shore for waterlaunches, and plenty of free parking. The lake is shallow, and we are not bothered by personal watercraft or large power boats. The wind is generally light, except for a couple of high-profile events this year! We'd like to hold this event in January, but are open to suggestions. I'd like to hear your comments and suggestions! Delvan Johnston, for Vancouver Lake Crew

Sound Rowers social outing at Tall Ships Tacoma
Michael Lampi <lampi@...>
I had a great time pedaling my Escapade around the entrance to
Quartermaster Harbor and Point Defiance yesterday to greet the Tall Ships. Deb Natelson and Vadim Kin came along, too, in a kayak and a rowing shell. Photos can be found at: http://snorlax.lampi.org/images/Tall%20Ships%20Tacoma%202005/index.html Deb and Vadim both said where they were the waves didn't make it up to the 3 foot height, but were sometimes up to the 2 foot level. Further away from the start of the parade I found some that made it to nearly 3 feet. Those pesky motorboat wakes! :-) --Michael Lampi

Local Adventure Racing Team Needs Three Person Kayak
Glenn/Cheryl ROGERS
Greetings,
We are a local adventure racing team called DART. You can view our team information at http://www.dirtworld.com/races/Team/DART/ and click the links under DART on the left column. In most races, boats are provided by the race. All boats are the same and all teams must use the boat provided. On the weekend of July 16-17 we will be racing in the Explore Ca Race at Lake Tahoe. http://www.exploreca.com/raceschedule/laketahoe.php This race has three teammates racing at any given time. Unfortunately we have been unable to find a three person kayak. Our alternative would be to use a single and a double which would be much slower.
Does anybody know where we could rent a three person kayak, Or, does anybody have a kayak that they would be willing to rent? We would need it from Thurs 7/14 until the 18th. Our team all values our equipment and would treat your equipment well with the understanding that if we break it, we buy it.
Please contact me off list.

Boat Missing
Laura Jackson
Greetings - Over the long weekend, a Perception Wavehopper downriver boat went missing from our boathouse in Portland, Oregon. Nobody from our club has it, so we presume it was stolen.
The boat is a yellow plastic single DR boat, serial #WEM22244J394 If you come across it, please contact Laura Jackson, Portland Kayak and Canoe Team, at 503-236-3704 or at this email.

Mako XT surfski for sale
cshelfer <cshelfer@...>
Greetings
I have a 6 month old white Carbon Fiber
Mako XT surfski (stable but speedy) for sale that has only been paddled twice.
It has self-draining footwells and adjustable pedals. Bottom line....too many
boats and too little time.
Will part with it for what I paid
for it (minus the shipping and including an S-2000 Speedwing adjustable
paddle):
$2,000.00 - price is
non-negotiable.
Boat is in Vancouver, WA and if it
doesn't get snapped up before hand, it will be on display at the Gorge Outrigger
races in Stevenson, WA July 16th.

Echelon surf ski $700
bapter2000 <bapter@...>
Very fast surf ski, especially on following seas. Blue deck, white
hull, adjustable foot pedals. The seat has been lowered to give it some additional stability. This particular boat won the Ski to Sea open kayak division. Come to Anacortes, and we'll take it out for a trial! Contact Bob Apter, 360-293-6335

OAR fundraiser
Jeff Knakal <jknakal@...>
Forwarding for the Olympia Area Rowing club:
Hello Sound Rowers -- Olympia Area Rowing is hosting our annual Champagne & Croquet party and fundraiser on Sunday, August 7, 2005 in Olympia, Washington. It's always a fun party, with good food, plenty of champagne and competitive speed croquet, played in teams of six. Teams of six play for $250 total per team. You don't have to be a croquet expert to have fun! Funds raised support adult and youth rowing and, this year, will be used to reduce our boathouse debt. I've attached the invitation, which has all the information you need. I hope you'll consider putting together a team and coming down to meet some fellow rowers. We'd also be glad to arrange a side trip to see our recently opened boathouse, which you can check out at www.olympiaarearowing.com . It really is a fun time. For more information you can contact me at the email address above or by phone on (360) 570-0899, or contact Marika Bertolini, the event chair, at bertolinim@... or by phone on (360) 943-5580. Thanks for considering this, Elizabeth McManus

Paddling, Camping, Adventure Racing gear sale (moving sale)
Sean Clancy <sjclancy@...>
I'm moving!
... and I need to sell all of my gear. We're talking like 10 bins of stuff
accumulated over 10+ years of adventure racing, paddling, cycling, ironmans,
etc.
Most of it is adventure racing-related, but there is some paddling stuff,
like Dry Bags, PFDs, Kayak Straps, and a Volvo (S60 2001-5) roof rack.
Other highlights are a complete olympic dumbbell set, some superlight
ice axes, sierra designs sleeping bags, goretex gear, etc. Even an Ibanez
accoustic guitar! I am conveniently located near the Leschi neighborhood of Seattle.
Check out the Excel spreadsheet of everything, with prices, attached. I just have to get rid of everything. Some sweet deals! I'll drop the price on stuff for 'package deals".
Sean Clancy

Sound Rowers Address Change
Jeff Knakal <jknakal@...>
I received notice that the place our mailbox is located is merging with
a UPS store and that our address will no longer be useable. If we stay with the "merged" company, our new address would be a UPS store in the Queen Anne area. I have considered changing the address to something closer to whoever is picking up the mail at the time, but in the past some have thought it important that we retain a "Seattle" address. (As opposed to Everett, or Bellevue or whatever") Options: 1. Keep a "Seattle" address 2. It doesn't matter....let's go rowing/paddling... Jeff K.

Re: Digest # 142 - the SR Mailbox
Steve Bennett
One might assume that "whoever is picking up the mail
at the time" is more often than not Jeff Knakal. If that is a valid assumption, I say shift the address to Mill Creek (near his home) - as Jeff already commits a generous portion of his time to our group, and appears likely to continue to do so in the future. For our benefit, let's make this man's life a little easier. I don't think a Seattle address is that big of deal. Let's go row/paddle.

Split ferry commuter book for Shaw
vadimk111
Anybody interested in splitting the frequent user book for Anacortes
to Shaw ferry run? Car and driver fare is $39.60, a book of 5 round trips is $109.90, so if we find three people, we're in business. The books have to be bought in Anacortes, so we would have to make arrangements on how to pass the coupons to each other. Either we all show up for the same boat, or the first person can leave the unused coupons somewhere and notify the rest where "somewhere" is (this worked last year, right, Michael?). I am looking at taking the 5:45 boat (on Friday), but, to guarantee that I make the boat, I will be there early enough for the 2:45 boat, and take that one if I am lucky. No arrangements are needed for the return trip because you only have to pay Westbound. Vadim

Re: Digest Number 145
Sean Clancy <sjclancy@...>
Anyone have a triple they would be willing to rent out
to an adventure racing team? Big race on Catalina next
weekend. Seattle based Team DART, a professional team,
is racing and they have not been able to secure a fast triple
(or any triple).
